In a piece of heartbreaking news that has shaken the film and television industry, veteran actor Sudhir Dalvi, immortalised for his iconic portrayal of Sai Baba in the classic 1977 film Shirdi Ke Sai Baba, has been hospitalised with a severe sepsis infection.
The 86-year-old actor, a beloved face in countless Indian households, has been admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital since the first week of October, where he is battling life-threatening complications.

The serious nature of Sudhir Dalvi’s health situation came to light when his wife, Suhas, revealed the actor was rushed to the hospital on October 8. He was experiencing extreme pain and had lost mobility in his limbs.
Upon admission, doctors diagnosed him with a severe sepsis infection. “We got to know it was a sepsis infection, which has affected all his joints. And since the infection is now in his blood, the recovery has been extremely slow,” Suhas told the media.
The actor was initially kept in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and continues to require extensive medical care, leading to a significant financial strain on his family.

The escalating medical expenses have pushed Sudhir Dalvi’s middle-class family into a difficult position. Reports indicate that the family has already spent a staggering Rs. 10 lakh on his treatment, and doctors have indicated that the final bill could surpass Rs. 15 lakh.
In a heartfelt appeal, his wife Suhas highlighted the lack of a financial safety net for actors. “We never anticipated something like this to happen with us… Unlike government employees who get a pension, actors have no such benefits. So, I would still request everyone to come forward and help us in any way they can,” she stated.
